Since 2012, Kudu has worked with hundreds of authors to bring their dreams of publishing to life. Our a la carte approach has allowed brand new authors and experienced writers alike to get their books edited, designed, printed and into the hands of their readers in a timely and professional manner.
Kudu is designed for authors with growing platforms who wish to benefit from premium editorial and design services, marketing consultation and the savings of investing in a larger print run, maximizing their sales profits.
Kudu offers simple, transparent pricing, and you only pay for what you need. From ghost-writing to developmental editing and light proofreading, we assess your manuscript and make recommendations, but you’re in the driver’s seat. You get what you pay for, and you only pay for what you want.
We only recommend services we think will benefit you as the author, and you are free to decline or accept our recommendations. After an initial consultation, we will provide you with a detailed proposal, which can be modified and adjusted in light of your needs, budget and timeline.
Traditional publishers pass along as little as 8% of sales proceeds to authors. Co-publishers and self-publishers are often not much better—in spite of the fact that authors are investing their own resources to bring their book to print.
Our approach is different. If you put your blood, sweat, and tears into your book, you should get to keep as much of the profits as possible. With that in mind, Kudu passes along to authors 100% of net proceeds from trade and ebook sales. We charge a flat $250 per year to keep your book in print and manage the distribution. This fee is waived the first year of your book’s publication.
It can take traditional publishers up to a year to get a book into print. The world is changing quickly, and your message is an important one. We don’t think you should have to wait that long. Depending on how ready your manuscript is for publication, it can take as little as six to eight weeks to get your book into your readers’ hands.
Self-published books often have a “look” about them—like they were produced on an assembly line. All the same fonts. All the same stock art. It may be true that you can’t judge a book by its cover, but don’t tell that to people browsing titles on Amazon or shopping at their local bookstore.
Your book is an extension of your identity, and our goal is to make you look good and your book look irresistible. That’s why we hire a professional designer to create a unique, compelling cover that grabs the attention of readers, whether in an online storefront or at a book table at a conference. Our designer will take your recommendations and ideas and turn them into three cover concepts for you to choose from.
With the advent of the ebook, pundits predicted the demise of the print book. In reality, print book sales have remained steady and—according to some stats—have actually grown. Simultaneously, subscription services and the ubiquity of the smartphone have created a whole new generation of audiobook junkies, streaming their favorite business and leadership titles while they work out at the gym or commute to work. This is why Kudu offers production and distribution in print, ebook and audio formats, making your book available in all major online bookstores.
